Better Business Bureau flunks Austin-based online pharamacy

The local Better Business Bureau says an Austin-based online pharmacy doesn’t have the right prescription for selling medication.

The bureau has issued an F rating for Infinitus Group LLC for failing to address consumer disputes and advertising issues. Consumer disputes filed with the bureau indicate the company took payments, then failed to provide the promised services or respond to refund requests. Additionally, consumers allege their paid memberships never were activated or links to “members only” content didn’t work.

Infinitus Group’s website, www.foreign-drugstores-online.com, says it can legally provide up to a 90-day supply of any prescription drug, without a prescription. The company also advertises discounts of up to 70 percent to 80 percent and claims to be the No. 1 source for buying prescription medication online. However, the bureau says, the company provides no substantiation or sources for those claims.

On its website, Infinitus Group says its members have access to more than 1,200 U.S.-approved prescription medications for people and pets supplied by more than 150 “exclusive” foreign pharmacies. A one-month membership for the website costs $29.95. Drugs for sale on the site include Retin-A, Vicodin and Ambien.

The address listed for Infinitus Group is a postal, shipping and office supply business on Escarpment Boulevard in Southwest Austin.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cautions that websites selling prescription drugs without valid prescriptions “deny consumers the protection provided by an examination conducted by a licensed practitioner.” The bureau recommends consumers buy medication from a trusted, licensed pharmacy.

The nonprofit Better Business Bureau says it has contacted Infinitus Group about the consumer complaints but hasn’t received a response. The bureau’s website says Infinitus Group first came to its attention in 2007.
